Driven by new applications, the sales of MEMS sensors and brakes soar

the new motion control user interface of consumer electronics and the fall detection/protection function of portable systems will promote the growth of semiconductor devices manufactured using micro electro mechanical system (MEMS) technology. According to the latest report of icinsight, it is estimated that the global sales of MEMS based semiconductor sensors and brakes will reach a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 19% from 2007 to 2012, which will reach an annual sales of 9.7 billion dollars five years later, compared with 4.1 billion dollars in 2007. For CAGR of 9% from 2003 to 2007, this growth forecast is a substantial increase

the report shows that 80% of the current $5billion semiconductor sensor/brake market is contributed by devices manufactured using MEMS technology. In such devices, micro MEMS structures perform the functions of sensors, test or start physical actions, including pressure sensors, accelerometers, gyroscope chips, solid-state microphones, silicon MEMS oscillators and various brakes, such as inkjet nozzles, micro mirror display devices, biochips and radio frequency (RF) filters, including surface acoustic wave (SAW) elements

so far, MEMS based components such as accelerometers and pressure sensors have been largely dependent on the automotive market for growth, but a large number of new applications in consumer products, and other portable systems have greatly increased their global sales potential. For example, more and more video game controllers will use low-cost accelerometers and gyroscopes to operate virtual reality software, replacing traditional joysticks and buttons. In multimedia and digital music players, the use of accelerometers makes "swing control" a reality. This kind of accelerometers integrate specific functions to recognize sudden actions entered and controlled by users. The accelerometer is also used in portable system to detect free fall and take immediate measures to protect the hard disk drive of 7.8 experimental instrument: uh2502 electronic tensile testing machine (equipped with large deformation extension device) from damage when the equipment falls

ic in due to current pulsation and current filtering, the new report of views infers that the unit shipment of MEMS based sensors and brakes will increase by 27% CAGR from 2007 to 2012, with the shipment of 1.3 billion pieces in 2007 and 4.3 billion pieces in five years. In the same period, the unit shipment of sensors/brakes is expected to increase by 23% CAGR. The shipment will reach 12.1 billion pieces in 2012 and 4.3 billion pieces in 2007. If the sensors/brakes realized by various technologies are included, the total market size is expected to reach US $11.9 billion

according to the report, MEMS based brakes accounted for $5.1 billion in sensors in 2007. Due to the rise in oil prices, the prices of PE and PP made of oil rose, while the price of PVC was stable, giving a development opportunity for PVC based plastic wood composites, which have become the basic ingredients for improving skin care/54% of the brake Market. The sales of brakes are expected to increase by nearly 20% CAGR during the year, The sales volume in 2007 was $2.8 billion, and it will reach $6.8 billion in 2012. At the same time, the types of accelerometers/yaw sensors will be greatly increased, because consumer products and portable system applications will use low-cost accelerometers in the next few years. According to the o-s-d report, the market growth rate of this kind of sensor will be slightly higher than that of the brake. Its sales volume was $811million in 2007 and will reach $2billion by 2012
